The Fate of the World Lies with Quiet Folk,
Can America survive another four years?
As a Canadian, I’ve come to know America, and Americans very well. I've visited the USA many dozens of times. I've travelled from Coast to Coast, north to south and back. I’ve met thousands of Americans, and gotten to know hundreds, and they all seem wonderful. I have many great memories. However, over the last eight years, my desire to return to the USA has been diminishing.
I read the news and watch television and now believe that the United States is possessed. There are countless evil deeds, done at every level of society.
The Administration's record is recorded and may go down as the point when this western Empire began its fall. Congress has done nothing to remedy that.
I see three types of Americans. There are the Democrats, the Republicans, and the Quiet Majority, who seem spell bound by the slick Madison Avenue advertisements and Spin of the Republicans. The Democrats seem locked in a hopeless and endless debate about how to deal with the vitriol and contempt of these Republicans. And the Republicans are a civilized person's greatest nightmare. Start with trigger-happy gun lovers resisting all policies of responsibility.
Look at the cost of the loosely defined and recently revised second amendment is staggering. There are thousands killed each year by guns. It is like 9/11 every seven or eight months. Most accept these victims, including many children, as the reasonable collateral damage of powerful toys. The names of lost souls are are countless. Consider Virginia Tech, JFK, MLK, RFK, and who knows who's next.
Meanwhile, death penalty advocates leave the execution carnival site and stroll over to a Doctor's office to scream pro-life slogans. They are nothing less than Fascists denying women a chance to make the most difficult choice privately. Their lust to dictate to others seem to know no bounds. They scream "Country first" as they trash the American political process to advance their own beliefs and agendas. Their tenacious efforts to ban abortion have torn the Country apart. It is an argument where both sides are right and there will never be a perfect solution. They must address the problem in a positive, and somewhat mutually agreeable fashion. But there is no evidence any are willing to Unite to save the Country from the myriad of temptations. The fact that there are no real "pro abortion" organizations, gives only the slightest hope that some common ground could be explored. Perhaps some programs to reduce unwanted pregnancy, and programs to support young mothers. The problem is that they must spend a little money to save the country. And that sounds like people might be asked to make a small sacrifice. Where have the good people gone?
I am certain that these factions do not represent mainstream party members. However, after watching this week’s Republican Nomination Convention, I find myself thinking the unthinkable, (since watching this man cause great chaos around the globe, as he manipulates money and men from the Vice President’s Chair). After hearing the latest Republican Vice Presidential Nominee last night, I think I prefer Dick Cheney.
Last night, to thunderous applause, Governor Palin alluded to a preference for no legal rights for suspects in the War on Terror, as did Mayor Giuliani. This shows just how low America has fallen, when, until recently, respect for the law, and maintaining a high standard of Justice was preeminent in the USA as it is in other democratic Countries. We should all cherish of the Bill of Rights. That is what our Allied Veterans have fought for, and many have died for. Now, it all seems in vain.
I like to think that the victims of 9/11 died as Martyrs for the right to live freely and that every citizen is a soldier in the fight for truth and Justice. We would prefer to risk death at the hands of a Terrorist, rather than alter the code of Law, or live in fear, or sacrifice any of our freedoms, (beyond a little extra security here and there). What ever happened to home of the free, Land of the brave?
Clearly, Americans are at a pivotal crossroads.
Americans have to decide. Do you want to go back to the old days, like a wild west movie, with gun battles in college corridors, or do you want to join the civilized countries of the world? Sadly it seems, there are too many who have been cultured in the 'back woods' rather than Libraries. Truth cannot be found in proclamations, only in deeds done. What have the Republicans done? They had the Whitehouse and Congress for six years and they built the largest Deficit in the history of man. That is a tax on the children. It is a tax against the future. It weakens the Country, while giving power to lenders. Republican's have spent their children's money while talking as if the are doing them a favor. The have conned future generations of Americans. It is the worst kind of tax, and they think they got away with it. Those who rail against taxes and then spend what is not theirs, should be locked up as the Con Men they are. If you look closely at what they have done, Republicans have no clue or care about personal or National responsibility. They must be removed from the corridors of power.
Let us hope, the peace loving American's show up in force this time.
God Bless America the Beautiful, from shiny oil slicked sea to shiny oil slicked sea.
